An EBJ guide

bespoke or ready to wear

BEGIN YOUR Journey bespoke engagement rings

Two Approaches. One Important Decision.

Choosing an engagement ring is a deeply personal experience, and one of the first decisions you'll make is whether to commission a bespoke creation or select a ready-to-wear design. Both offer their own advantages. Ready-to-wear jewellery provides the convenience of established designs, while bespoke craftsmanship offers the freedom to create something entirely individual.

Understanding these differences can help you choose an engagement ring that reflects your partner's personality, your preferences and the significance of the occasion.

 01 - Understanding the Difference

What Is a Bespoke Engagement Ring?

A bespoke engagement ring is individually created around your preferences, rather than selected as a finished piece from a collection.

From the diamond's shape and proportions to the setting, precious metal and smallest design details, each element can be considered to create something personal.

A truly bespoke commission can involve developing a completely original design or carefully adapting an existing concept to suit your vision.

What Is a Ready-to-Wear Engagement Ring?

A ready-to-wear engagement ring is a finished piece of jewellery, manufactured in advance and available to purchase directly from stock. These rings are typically sold as seen, with limited or no opportunity to customise the design, diamond or precious metal.

At Essex Bespoke Jewellery, we take a different approach. We don't offer traditional ready-to-wear engagement rings or hold mass-produced jewellery in stock. Instead, our made-to-order collection features thoughtfully developed designs, individually handcrafted in our Essex workshops.

Our made-to-order service allows you to choose your preferred diamond, precious metal and ring size, while benefiting from a more streamlined design process and faster turnaround than a fully bespoke commission.

It's an ideal choice for those who love one of our existing designs but still value the craftsmanship, individuality and attention to detail of a handmade engagement ring.

A Design That's Entirely Yours

From elegant solitaires to intricate, unconventional creations, bespoke design allows you to explore proportions, settings and details that may not be available in standard collections.

Greater Diamond Selection

Rather than being restricted to a diamond already fitted into a ring, you can select a gemstone based on its shape, quality, proportions and individual characteristics.

Thoughtful Craftsmanship

An individually handcrafted ring allows the setting, band and finer details to be considered together, creating a design that balances beauty, comfort and practicality.

Personal Details

Hidden gemstones, meaningful engravings and subtle design elements can add sentimental value, creating something that feels genuinely personal.

A More Personal Experience

Working directly with your jeweller allows you to discuss ideas, explore possibilities and understand the craftsmanship involved in bringing your ring to life.

 Immediate Availability

Some ready-to-wear rings are available to purchase immediately, making them particularly suitable for shorter proposal timelines.

Being able to view and try on the exact piece before purchasing can provide reassurance about its appearance, proportions and overall style.

 Established Designs

Ready-to-wear collections often feature classic, popular styles, making the selection process straightforward for customers who already know what they're looking for.

CONVENIENT SELECTION

With the design, diamond and precious metal already chosen, ready-to-wear rings offer a straightforward purchasing experience, ideal for those who prefer a simpler selection process.

04 - Which Is Right for You?

There is no single right answer when choosing between bespoke and ready-to-wear jewellery. The best option depends on what matters most to you.

If you're working towards a short deadline, prefer an established design or want to see the finished ring before purchasing, ready-to-wear may be the more practical choice.

If you value individuality, want greater control over the details or have a particular vision in mind, commissioning a bespoke engagement ring offers a more personal approach.

 A Ring Worth Creating

At Essex Bespoke Jewellery, we believe an engagement ring should be as individual as the person wearing it.

Every commission is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted in our Essex workshops, combining traditional jewellery-making techniques with carefully selected gemstones and exceptional attention to detail.

Whether you have a clear vision or simply an idea you'd like to explore, our team can guide you through the possibilities.
